Greetings, Tribe!
If you know me even a little, you know I’m obsessed with snow. I would have a personal flurry (Frozen reference) if that was possible. In Indy, we no longer have winters and are lucky enough to get one good snowstorm a season, so I’m generally starved for my snow!!!
Therefore, we take matters into our own hands and travel to find snow. Between the direct flights to Denver and the opportunity to embrace some quality mountain time, this means it’s off to Boulder!

Day 1: Hitting the trails!
We had an early morning flight, so we had to fight to stay awake all day. After getting to Boulder and checking out our usual stops (an REI that has all the good stuff!), we found a relatively flat trail to help us get acclimated. The scenery was beautiful, but bittersweet as we came across the evidence of the fires that swept this land just two years prior.

I broke in my new trail shoes on this run: Brooks Catamount. So light and responsive! Definitely going to be hanging onto these bad boys for a while!

After getting about 5.5 miles in, we of course had to stop by a local brewery: Upslope. Two thumbs up!

Day 2: Breckinridge!
We got up early once again and drove to the slopes. Adam to the top of the mountain for some downhill skiing, while I headed to the Nordic Ski Center for some cross country skiing. While I ski in the Midwest when I can, this was my first time in the mountains. So beautiful!!! I got to ski under the chair lifts for the downhill skiers, through woods….just beautiful!
The windchill was about 3 degrees, so I had 4 layers on top and 3 on the bottom. I don’t think I could have survived with less!

Day 3: More trails in Boulder!
After a few early mornings in a row, we slept in and went for an easy 5k on the Boulder trails (well, it felt easy, but my quads burned for a few days after because of the down hills!!) Definitely warmer weather and FINALLY the sun came out!!

Our final night was spent in Denver as we had a 5am departure from the airport. We took the train from the airport hotel into the city to one of our now usual spots: Wynkoop Brewing. FANTASTIC beer list and a delicious bison burger to accompany.
This trip was WAY too short, but it has encouraged us to update our Zillow settings, so hopefully we’ll get back sooner rather than later.
Happy Trails!
