Hello. My name is Shannon and I’m a workaholic.
I love what I do and can’t imagine another career path (trust me, I’ve tried), but the hours stink! Being a professional musician, who mostly teaches, means I’m busy every night and weekend. I barely have time for Adam, my better half, let alone anything else. This wouldn’t be a problem, except the other love of my life (non-family speaking, of course) is running.
I’ve been running for most of my life. Started in high school cross country, ran my first marathon as a senior in college and the rest is history. Running is a solitary sport, and I appreciate that and capitalize on that as a great time to reflect and meditate; but there has been something missing. I don’t have a tribe. Most running groups have after work runs, between 5-7pm, or Saturday runs. Well, I’m working. The other option is to hang out with stay at home moms, but if I hear anymore about kids’ bowel movements or what they’re eating, I might have to run into the bushes. So that leaves this workaholic running alone nearly every time. Most days that’s fine, but I am definitely missing out on the benefits of a team, the camaraderie. So that brings us here.
The internet and social media can be a wonderful thing. Twitter and Instagram have become my running group. I find so many other runners inspirational. To see obstacles they have overcome, how they juggle all aspects of their life and still get running in, the beginners who are working towards their first 5k and the pros who are kicking butt and taking names. I love it.
Friends and family have encouraged me for some time to start a blog. Well, here we are. If you too are looking for your running tribe, welcome.
