Greetings, Tribe! This post is a day later than I originally planned, but I couldn’t allow myself to post without completing my long run.My first full week of marathon training (for the Chicago Marathon) is in the books!! It feels so good to have an official schedule for my workouts again!I kicked off this training cycle with feeding some of my favorite people. Celebrating the big and little things in life with my closest friends is one of my favorite things to do. We had brunch for dinner, otherwise known as brinner. We had mimosas and bloody Mary’s, waffles, homemade whipped cream and syrup, fruit, bacon, eggs, and potatoes. To sit around a table and enjoy a meal with “your people” is just sublime! So much laughter!!!!
Last Sunday was supposed to be my first long run, but it was so crazy stormy that I had to postpone it to Monday. Thank heavens I had a huge gap in my teaching schedule which allowed me to run in between Monday’s storms. The rest of the the week went according to plan (relatively).Lack of speedwork has been one of my downfalls in the past. I finally found someone to hold me accountable. A colleague/friend of mine, Kathy, is just getting back into running after a long winter and we discovered that we both want to get faster. Well, Hello Speedwork! Now, we’re not the same pace nor are we working towards the same exact goals, but to have someone at the track with me on Friday mornings is a game changer!!! We cheer each other on as we take turns passing each other and can enjoy or warm up and cool downs together. So excited to have found a partner!
I was scheduled to run 11 miles on Sunday, but after playing an outdoor wedding and it being in the mid-90’s outside, there was no way that was going to happen! So, I ran Monday’s run on Sunday on a treadmill (a 5k), and on Monday I ran my long run on a treadmill (5.5miles in the morning and 5.5miles in the afternoon). I felt ok about doing the run this way since I have another 11 miler scheduled in a couple of weeks before my mileage really increases. So far so good for my training, I’d say!In other news….people have been asking me lately how wedding planning is going. Well, here it is:Venue ✔️DJ/Host ✔️Caterer ✔️Photographer ✔️Hair/Makeup ✔️Cellist (still need two violins and a viola)✔️This past week I was able to get quotes for a cake and to schedule dress appointments. I THINK we’re right on schedule!Happy trails, my friends!
