Greetings, Tribe!Four weeks down, 13 weeks to go! Training was going so well. Until it wasn’t.My mileage was on track, I was doing my weekly speedwork at the track, was running outside more than inside. Life was all rainbows and unicorns, until I got the flu. I woke up a week and a half ago thinking, “Wow. I ate way too much last night!” A couple hours later I realized I actually had the flu. Ugh! I ended up not eating any food for over 36 hours (don’t worry, I still ran one measly mile every day to keep my streak alive), so I didn’t have any energy to spare. When I did “run,” I had Bambi legs. So wobbly!
I started to feel a bit better, so I went through with running the Firecracker 6 in Downtown Indianapolis on the 4th of July. The mixture of direct sunlight, heat and humidity, and still recovering from the flu, equates to an awful race. I started the 6 miles at what would be a moderate pace for me and slowly got slower and slower. I finished well under an hour (just over 56 minutes), but that was far slower than my usual pace. When we got home, and after Adam did his personal hot dog eating contest, I decided I needed to use my day off to finally weed and mulch my flower beds. For some reason the 90 degree temps didn’t make me think twice. Oy! After working in the yard for four hours, having some adult beverages and staying up late for the fireworks, I was back to not feeling well again (shocker!). My throat was sore and I just didn’t have the energy. Rest was what my body was craving, so for the next four days I ran my one mile and that was it.Yesterday I reassessed my training plan and decided to switch my long runs so that I ran 10 miles THIS week and will get my 14 miles in next week. Because it was my first real run in about a week, I ran 5 miles in the morning and 5 miles in the evening. My morning run was laughable, while by the evening run I was feeling much stronger. While I have a feeling that this week will be a bit of a push, I have faith that my training is still on track (relatively). On the wedding planning front….We were able to get our engagement photos taken between storms a couple of weeks ago. Our photographer, Bobbi, is a sista from another mista. Love her!! She was so much fun and I cannot wait to see how the photos turn out! (I may have screen grabbed some sneak peaks from her Instagram story)
This past weekend my family and friend were in town, so we got to go dress shopping. Who knew it required so much energy?!?! Luckily, we found the perfect dress! It may have been our very last stop, but it has been found and ordered. So relieved to have such a big “to do” checked off the list!
Happy trails, friends!
